February 4th marked the Chinese Solar New Year and the arrival of 2018 Year of the Earth Dog. In Feng Shui, we evaluate this annual energy and determine how it may affect the inhabitants within their home or office. The system we use to decipher this energy is called the flying stars. The stars fly into a home or office and align with the Lo Shu or Bagua map of the building and affect the existing energy pattern from the previous year. This is just one layer of information that we look at to determine how inhabitants are affected by their environment. There are many variables, but this gives a general indication of what to expect for 2018.
What happens in the center?
The 9 Fame Star occupies the center of the Lo Shu. This area affects all the other areas of the Lo Shu as it radiates out from the center. The earth is the native element of the center and the 9 fire star enhances this element thus making the Earth Dog a friendly environment to play within. This fire star represents joy and happiness and influences harmony and unity within the home. The number 9 also represents completion. Look for fulfillment and finalization of projects that you started in 2017.

The south sector is visited by the Relationship Green Star 4. This wood star brings the energy of romance and connection to the area of fame and recognition. The Transformation Yellow 5 star visits the North sector of career this year. It is the most dense energy of all the inauspicious stars. It forces you to look at what isn’t working in your life and to make a change. This could affect income and impact health as well as the middle son in the family. If you have a front door facing north, try to enter from another door in 2018. If your bedroom is in the north, it is also recommended to move to another bedroom if possible. The West experiences the Illness Star 2. This earth star lands in the sector of children and creativity and brings potential for health problems. It also influences the youngest daughter and it is advisable to add moving metal, like a wind chime to break up the influence of the dense earth energy.

The East hosts the Frustration Star 7. This metal energy destroys the wood energy of the East and can bring about miscommunication, financial loss, burglary and injury. The eldest son is influenced by east area and it is advisable to add a bowl of still water or an image of still water to weaken the negative metal energy.

Additional Precautions for This Year
The Grand Duke Jupiter arrives in the northwest from 292.6 to 307.5 degrees. Pay extra attention to keep this area quiet, avoid noise and digging. Avoid facing this direction for prolonged periods of 2 hrs. or more. If facing it then place an image of a peacemaker connected to your culture facing the NW direction on your desk or in your home. If you are facing the opposite direction (it’s at your back you will have more heavenly support and support from family, friends and clients). Try to avoid a front door facing this direction. Chinese place dragon horses to the right or left of the front door to honor it.
